Reviews of the Sony Cybershot DSC W7

Divernet review the Sony Cybershot DSC W7 with Sony MPK WA housing

A much bigger camera but, like its sibling listed here, this Cybershot has probably the largest and best LCD screen display of any. It is simply superb. It has a fast (f2.8) lens that is good in low light conditions and turned out to provide among the sharpest results.
It allows for complete manual control if needed - but no manual white balance, only factory presets. Nevertheless, this model was one of our two favourites. It uses a proprietary Sony Memory-stick.

Imaging Resource have a very detailed review of the Sony Cybershot DSC W7 They conclude with this…

Pros:
* Very fast, excellent shutter response, very good shot to shot speed
* Fast startup/shutdown time
* Better than average color accuracy
* Very capable movie mode
* Very fast multi-burst mode, great for analyzing golf/tennis swings
* Large 2.5″ LCD display
* LCD is usable in very bright light
* Excellent low-light shooting capabilities
* Unusually bright AF-assist light
* Design is compact but usable, fits the hand well
* Good battery life

Con:
* So-so handling of household incandescent lighting
* Autofocus tended to focus on objects in front of the main subject more often than I’d like/expect
* Rather contrasty default tone curve
* Image noise is higher than average
* Anti-noise processing trades away some subtle subject detail

“Simple pro lighting and use tips let you snap stunning photos.
The Sony DSC-W7 is a nearly identical follow-on to the preceding (and extremely popular) DSC-W1 model, the main differences being a larger 7.2-megapixel CCD, 32 megabytes of internal memory, and a couple of extra exposure options. Like the W1, the Sony W7 provides more manual exposure control than most compact models permit, yet is easy to use in full-auto mode, and its seven preprogrammed scene modes help with tricky subjects. The large 2.5-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the W7 is user-friendly and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a great “take anywhere” camera with great versatility and excellent color and tonality, the Sony DSC-W7 deserves strong consideration.”

A customer at Yahoo shopping has good things to say about the Sony Cybershot DSC W7 Digital Camera

Pros: great photo quality

Cons: picture blurs if hand is not that steady, so work on that

I received this camera yesterday as an early Christmas present from my parents. Although initially I wanted the SD 450 from Canon, my parents bought this one for me. Still, after using the camera for a while I was actually delighted with the results. The best feature however is that you can use it as a camera as well as a camcoder with full sounds. Love that! A 1GB memory card runs a long way with 1000 pics and over 1 hr of video. The battery life is good too. All in all I am very happy with this camera.
