The All-Weather Stylus 600 is designed and sealed to withstand water, dust and snow. Bright Capture Technology brightens the preview on the LCD and brilliantly captures images, even in dim light. The 2.5″ premium-size LCD helps users view and share images during shooting and playback. Capture subtle details in surprisingly high-resolution fashion with the 6 megapixel CCD. |
Cathy Church reviews the Olympus Stylus 600 for Scuba Diving
This system was terrific–excellent value.Pros: The small case is easy to handle–the large shutter control, color coded buttons are clearly labeled and stacked at different heights for easy use even with cold-water gloves. There are ergonomic aids to allow easy one-hand use. The large 2 1/2 inch screen is incredible. As with many digital cameras, the screen can be difficult to see in very bright conditions, but at average depth it was quite bright. There is a hood which helps. There is a mount for adding a SeaLife viewfinder if you wish to use it a lot while snorkeling in bright conditions.
The built-in flash produces plenty of light for close-ups, and the diffuser is easily removed for longer shots (although I have not yet tested this). But, as with all underwater cameras, an external strobe should be added. After 68 photos with full flash, the battery was still fine and the housing did not fog up.
Cons: There is no manual mode.
DCResource have User reviews on the Olympus Stylus 600
There’s one review I was particularly interested in, where the user says that the Olympus 600 does not record sound.
THIS CAMERA DOES NOT RECORD SOUND
Strengths: Compact size, ease of use, fast start-up, good picture quality.
Weaknesses: THIS CAMERA DOES NOT RECORD SOUND
Summary: THIS CAMERA DOES NOT RECORD SOUND. I am absolutely sick that I chose the Olympus Stylus 600. I was in shock when I realized that I wasn’t hearing sound with my video recordings. I thought sound was standard equipment on cameras now days so I didn’t even think to ask whether it had this feature. I mean cars come with wheels, houses come with roofs, and digital cameras come with sound right? WRONG!
Aside from this major oversight, the camera is pretty good. I like the compact size and the weatherproof design. I don’t think the pictures look as good as my 3.4 MP Nikon, but I think that’s just a lack of familiarity.
