Buy the Canon EOS 20D Digital Camera

The Canon EOS-20D digital camera is quite popular. Someone in one of the Yahoo groups I belong to, asked about it and received many favourable responses. Although this camera has been superceded by another model (the 30D), this one should be around for a lot longer. Besides, at the time of writing, the Canon EOS-30D had no underwater housing made of it.

For the EOS-20D, these are the Housings available:

  • BS Kinetics Dahna Digital
  • SUBAL C20
  • UK-Germany UK-D-20D
  • Ikelite #6871.20
  • Canon EOS20D with eTTL
  • ewa-marine U-AXP
  • Sealux CC 20
  • Aquatica A20

Digital Photography reviewed the Canon EOS 20D Digital Camera for use on land.

Here are some testimonials for using the Canon EOS 20D Underwater:

“I use the Canon 20D underwater and I’ve been happy with it. I wrote an instructional article concerning its use
that has recently been posted on Backscatter’s new website. There are a few low-res shots included.”

“I am using this camera with an aquatica housing for a few months now. It’s a great camera both uw and on land. The big advantage for me is the low noise at 800ASA what’s really useful for taking pictures deep. Also battery charge last for an impressive number of shots. The only slight problem is dust on the ccd but that’s true of any digital slr. I so far used it only for wide angle with a sigma 15mm fisheye and I like the results. The choice of the housing depends on what you want to do with it. The aquatica can go significantly deeper than the subal but that’s relevant only of you plan to
dive it below 200′. And you probably could use the subal to about 250′. The aquatica housing can access all the functions of the camera. I ll let Mike chip in for the subal housing and for the macro possibilities. I am having some leak issues that I am dealing with aquatica, I think it can happen with any brand and I am diving it to the limit of the rating.
You can see some of my pics at the website here and here (after 10/22/05) ” Marcos

“I shoot with it housed in a Subal C20 housing. I started with macro (100 mm + long flat port) and have added a wide-angle setup (15 mm fisheye + big dome). It’s a good setup for UW use. The housing depth
rating is usually different than the port depth rating. If you plan to go deep, go as deep as the weakest link in the system to be safe.” Mike
