The Sea & Sea DX-D200 Housing was made for the Nikon D200 Digital Camera

Digideep.com now have photos and a very favorable review by J P Trenque, of the Sea and Sea DX-D200 Underwater Housing J. P. Trenque’s conclusion for the Sea and Sea DX-D200 Housing is…

Conclusion
In all, I am extremely happy with my purchase. The Sea & Sea DX-D200 is not the perfect housing yet because of its viewfinder, lack of some controls and occasionally fiddly dial commands. However, it is extremely competitively priced compared to other metal housings and handles beautifully underwater. Oh, and it looks rather good and serious too!

WetPixel have a review of the Sea and Sea DX D200 Housing The author of the review, Craig Ruaux states at the end of the review…

“Overall, this is a very solid, high quality housing. I expect to get many years of good use from this housing, and I am happy with the purchase. There are some things missing from this housing that may or may not represent a problem for individual users, but for photographers like myself with a reasonable investment in Sea & Sea ports, the decision to purchase this housing is basically a no-brainer.”

Reviews of the Nikon Coolpix 7900

Steves Digicams review the Nikon Coolpix 7900 Digital Camera
and state that

“These Coolpix cameras use intelligent technology to help ensure a balanced exposure and sharpness. Nikon’s exclusive new D-Lighting function is another new addition that can literally turn throwaway shots into frame-able memories. The D-Lighting feature can be selected in Playback mode — automatically compensating for insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in order to obtain balanced exposure throughout the frame. Both cameras are also equipped with Blur Warning, another feature unique to Nikon which alerts the user when a shot is compromised by camera or hand shake, allowing another shot to be taken before leaving the scene.”

Nikonos Series

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

I saw a post by a Scuba Diver the other day, saying how much he loves the Nikonos series of cameras, so I did a bit of research on them. Nikon have ceased production of this series. They “may” still be found on E-bay or in private sales. I couldn’t find any on Amazon.

Nikon Coolpix 4600 4MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

Nikon WP-CP3 Waterproof Case for Coolpix 4600 & 5600 Digital Cameras (depth 130ft.)

The Nikon Coolpix 4600 Digital Camera has an Underwater Scene Mode, movie mode (without sound), and is powered by AA-size batteries.
The Nikon Coolpix 4600 and 5600 are Nikon’s entry level point-and-shoot cameras for 2005. Both feature compact bodies, a 1.8″ LCD display, in-camera redeye reduction and “D-lighting” features (more on these later), and tons of scene modes. The main difference between the two models is the resolution — 4 Megapixels for the 4600 and 5 for the 5600 — but there are a few other differences.

Note that these are Point and Shoot Cameras and there are NO manual controls. This is great for beginners, however most Scuba Divers want manual controls once they become more proficient at Underwater Photography.

The Nikon WP-CP3 Waterproof Case is designed exclusively for Nikon’s Coolpix 4600 and 5600 digital cameras, this underwater casing features a compact, durable design that allows control of all camera functions. Use it underwater at depths of up to 130 feet or 40 metres, or to take pictures at the beach or on ski slopes without worrying about damaging your camera.

8 Underwater Cameras Compared

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Divernet Diver Magazine tried out, then reviewed and compared 8 different Scuba Diving Cameras

The author also discussed the different things to look at when purchasing a digital camera for Underwater Photography. Over the next few days, I’ll do a more detailed review of some of those cameras.

Nikon discontinues most film cameras

Friday, January 13th, 2006
It looks like Digital cameras are really starting to take over from Film cameras. Nikon has announce that they will focus most of their resources in the digital area.

Nikon has announced that they will no longer sell most of their film cameras. The only film cameras that will continue to be manufactured are the F6 and the FM10. The F6 will be the only one sold in Europe. All large format lenses, and many manual focus lenses are as of now discontinued too.

Good news for digital photographers are that now “Nikon Corporation has made the decision to focus management resources on digital cameras in place of film cameras”.

“Following the success of our digital line-up over the last seven years, which has resulted in more than 95% of Nikon’s UK business being within the digital area, Nikon Corporation has made the decision to focus management resources on digital cameras in place of film cameras. This decision will allow Nikon to continue to develop products that match the demands of an increasingly competitive market place.”
